Writing "SMART" Goals
For goals to be effective, they must be formed and written in "SMART" terms.
S= SPECIFIC They must be clearly defined and written.
M=MEASURABLE They must be able to be measured and/or tracked over time. You must be able to clearly define what success on a goal will look like.
A=ACTIONABLE There must be specific action steps you can take toward the realization of the goal.
R=REALISTIC Your goal must be one that is realistically based on your current level of skills, your environment, and the time allotted.
T=TIME BASED Your goal needs to have a deadline that you are committed to.
Try to set your goals so that they are realistic (can be done) in the time allotted... however, set them so that you have to stretch and grow a little to acheive them. Don't set the bar too low, you can adjust your goals later if needed. Set your goal then really go for it! Reach for the stars!!
Here's one of my goals written in "SMART" terms:
I will become an Executive Unit Leader by the end of August, 2008 by helping a minimum of 6 of my team members (YOU) acheive Unit Leader by the end of August.
Call to ACTION:
Write YOUR goals in "SMART" terms. First on paper for yourself, then type them up and and send them to me.
